The Complete Private Pilot Checkride Guide
The private pilot checkride is the culminating evaluation of every hour spent in training. It consists of two distinct phases: an oral examination and a practical flight test. Both are administered by an FAA-designated pilot examiner, commonly called a DPE. The entire event is governed by the FAA Airman Certification Standards (ACS), document FAA-S-ACS-6, which specifies every task, knowledge area, and performance tolerance a candidate must meet. Understanding the structure, standards, and common failure points before the test date is the most reliable path to a first-attempt pass.
