YESODI, BEHIND THE NAME
Yesod means foundation. The word is also associated with growth and innovation according to Rabbi Ian Bailey in his book “the seven ways” on personality types based on the Sifirot. It’s always interesting how Hebrew words are connected, the meaning can spread to different things that may seem different when looked at individually. In order to innovate, in order to grow, we need a strong foundation. We as a people have a foundation that has been developed for over 5000 years since the day Adam recognized the first ever Shabbat. All the way to Noah who rediscovered God, and Abraham who discovered god on his own journey. Joseph, King David, The prophetess Devorah, Rabbi Yehuda nd Rabbi Akiva, to the, Arizal, the Baal Shemtov, all the way into the modern era, where we have been living the very bedrock, the foundations, and the toil of these great sages. But the future will be different, it will be an even more connected world, with even more abundance, more than ever before… As we walk into this new era, we will be forced to ask ourselves, what is the point, what is the meaning of life, and we’ll look to the sages who devoted their lives to make this world a bit more of a suitable dwelling place for the king of all kings, a place where Hashem will feel a bit more comfortable to reveal himself, a place where miracles can occur without tainting our free will. A place where the world is a harmonious symphony, where peace, joy, and love are commonplace, and hunger a dark relic of the past. A man will work not for the compensation but rather for the enthusiasm that he has for his project. The curse of Adam, the curse of eve will vanish, and we will be forced to rethink how we live, what we value, and who we respect, and to what do we give honor. We will see a world where kindness, and compassion, rule. Where humility is valued over fame, and where knowledge is freely obtained and appreciated through time. I’m confident that we will see an era where people will ask themselves, “what is the pint of all this?” And we, as a collective will realize, and value that this world is the palace of the king. Although it’s been trampled and ridden with crime, throughout the many dark ages, there will come a day, when we will see the finishing touches, the polishing and restoration, of this beautiful world. And all will be revealed. Tonight was beautiful. The idea is grand, and one worth pursuing. By connecting each other for the common good, we bring the world one step closer to those finishing touches, that world where the king will comfortably reveal himself, in all of his glory. And one day the world will have that Aha moment, revering back to the creator, appreciating his wonderful compassion, and in the words of king David: remembering the past as though it were a dream. So, as we check the rebar in this final pour, and imprint the final etches on this great foundation, let us do it with the intention, that when we build above grade, we will be building the most
