A common misconception exists about aircraft stalls. A stall does not occur simply because a plane is flying too slowly. Instead, a stall happens when the wing's angle becomes too steep, causing the airflow to separate from the wing's surface.
When airflow separates from the wing, lift is lost abruptly. This separation occurs regardless of the aircraft's actual speed through the air. An aircraft can experience a stall at any speed.
The angle of attack—the angle between the wing and the oncoming air—is the critical factor in stall conditions. Once this angle becomes too steep, aerodynamic lift cannot be maintained, even if the plane is flying at a relatively high speed.
