One of the busiest people I know is Scott “Scooter” Braun. Somehow, he’s also one of the quickest people to respond any time I reach out.
It's not because he isn’t busy. He’s insanely busy. He just respects people enough to get back to them.
In my experience, that’s true of many of the busiest and most successful people I know. They respond. The answer may be yes, no, or simply, “not right now.” Those are all acceptable answers. At least you know where you stand.
What I don’t understand is silence.
When did being busy become an excuse for ignoring people? We’re all busy. You don’t need an hour to respond to someone. You don’t even need five minutes. Sometimes all it takes is, “Got this. Let me come back to you.”
I try very hard to do the same. If you took the time to reach out to me, I’ll always do my best to get back to you. I may not be able to help, I may have to say no, and I may not have the answer you want, but I will give you the basic courtesy of an answer.
You don’t owe everyone a yes, but you do owe people basic respect.
