The Andromeda Galaxy lies 2.5 million light-years away from Earth and represents the farthest object visible to the human eye without optical aid. Despite this vast distance, it remains our nearest galactic neighbor.
Andromeda is currently on a slow collision course with the Milky Way. In approximately 4 billion years, the two galaxies will merge into a single structure.
