Yotam Segev left Israel's most selective military program after a decade to launch Ciera, a data security tool that identifies sensitive information and access points, now valued at $12 billion.
From Israel's elite military unit to building a $12 billion company, Yotam Segev's journey shows how asking the right questions, and committing to the work, creates transformative solutions.
Yotam Segev is an Israeli entrepreneur who left the Israeli army's most selective program after 10 years to start a company called Ciera, which helps companies find and secure their sensitive data. By 2026, the company was valued at $12 billion.
Ciera is a data security tool that finds every customer record and card number within a company and shows who has access to that sensitive data. The product addresses a critical gap that Yotam identified by interviewing 100 company security heads.
After a quarter with zero sales, Yotam fired his sales team and began selling the product himself, flying out every Monday night to meet with customers and returning Saturday morning, even while caring for his 10-month-old baby. The next quarter, sales recovered and the company eventually reached $100 million in annual revenue by 2025.
