A 17th century Iranian carpet where silk and gleaming metal threads create a luminous surface.
This masterwork combines silk in warp, weft, and pile with metal wrapped thread, asymmetrically knotted into an intricate pictorial design. At nearly six feet wide, it represents the refined textile arts of the Islamic world. A gift to The Met from collector C. Ruxton Love Jr. in 1967, it remains a stunning example of what the loom could achieve.
